Bed sticks and rails may not be suitable for clients with particular conditions.
The client must be thoroughly assessed and appropriate aid prescribed by a suitably trained health professional.

Installation and review:
For under mattress bedsticks/rails - must be installed between mattress and base and pushed in as far as it can go
For hospital beds - a clamp on style bed stick can be used and must be clamped firmly into position.
Ensure no gaps are between mattress and bedstick.
Must be positioned vertical on the side the client is transferring from, towards the centre or head of bed.
Check that the bedstick and mattress cannot be easily moved to create a gap.
If there is a significant change in client's physical, mental or functional status, re-assess use by trained health professional.
